VALCHIAVENNA
A fascinating and evocative mountain territory, located on the border between Italy and Switzerland, in the northern part of Lombardy, it is crossed by the Liro torrent and the Mera river, with three main valleys (Valle Spluga, Val Bregaglia, Piano di Chiavenna) that meet in the municipal area of Chiavenna.
A city famous for its historic architecture and its role as an ancient transit point and trade route between Italy and northern Europe.
Today it is also known for its natural beauty: mountains, lakes and valleys that offer many opportunities for hiking and skiing.
CROTTO
A natural cave characterised by the presence of a current of air called ‘sorél’, which keeps the temperature constant at around 8°C, creating an ideal environment for storing wine and maturing cold meats, sausages and cheeses.
Traditionally, these were meeting places, decorated with paintings and furnished with stone tables and seats, where people met up for a drink and a chat.
